I didn't even cry when Fr. Blanchard poured the water on my head!

Back home, after mass, it's PRESENT TIME!

Mommy, is this one for me?

I LOVE my new personalized conversion stool/chair from the Savarese family

Do you like my hat - it says I'm the "birthday princess"... Jealous?

At first, I wasn't too sure about all this!

This icing tastes pretty good... I love my own mini cake!

Mommy moved my monkey from the big cake to my cake so I could check her out.

A Year Ago Tomorrow, You Arrived

Dear Lucy,

A year ago tomorrow, you were born. I can hardly believe that a year has gone by! Happy First Birthday, baby!

Seth and I love you with every ounce of our being, and to think that you have only been here one year is unbelievable. Last year at this time, I was anxiously wondering when you would arrive. I think I was probably busy walking around the mall with Seth, in an effort to get you to move along! Little did I know you would arrive the very next day. And believe me, I remember that day very well. I now understand why my mom can recall so vividly my birthday and my siblings' birthdays. As she says, it is just such a momentous day. I don't think I fully appreciated quite how momentous it was until this week.

Last year at this time, I did not know that Seth and I would be completely, totally and utterly in love with you and, to be honest, rather obsessed with you. But we can't help it! You're just so cute, and you really know exactly what to do to make us laugh and smile.

To say that you have completely changed our world would be a huge understatement. You have changed our world more profoundly than I ever could have imagined. When you are parent, you will understand what I mean. You have taught us so much in your first year--how to be patient (okay maybe that's me, not Seth); how to not get caught up in the little things; and that what really matters is making the world a better place for you. You've grown and changed so much too--you learned how to hold up your head, how to smile, how to laugh, how to reach for and play with your toys, how to say mama, dada, baby and puppy, how to suck your left thumb (which you do all the time!), how to sit, how to crawl, how to pull, how to eat food, how to hug, how to blow kisses, how to play with your cousins, how to sleep through the night (sometimes!), how to roll a ball, how to ham it up for friends and strangers alike, how to tear up magazines, how to squeal, how to climb up and down stairs, and how to melt our hearts over and over again. You also now have four teeth. You've traveled quite a few places too--Rhode Island, New York, Florida (including several beach trips!), Alabama, and Louisiana. Actually you've been to even more states if you count all those that we drove through on our move down to Louisiana. You've made us laugh more times than we count, and you've made us learn a love deeper than anything we ever thought existed. So happy birthday, Lucy. We cannot wait to see how you grow and change between now and next February. We love you!
