Someone's pulling Lucy's hair and it's not me (or Seth)

So I was changing Lucy today when all of the sudden she just started screaming. Liz said that when your baby does that you should just check them head to toe to figure out what's making them so upset. So I started at her head and I didn't have to look any farther: Lucy was pulling her OWN hair. It was pretty hysterical. As she got more and more upset, I guess she just pulled it harder and harder. By the time I realized what was wrong, she had a death grip on it like you wouldn't believe. I was actually a little afraid she might pull some out. Once I pried her little fist open she magically stopped crying. Later today she was feeling her hair with the same hand. I guess it's a new sensation that she is exploring or something.

Today was a fun day. Jessica and I went to Stroller Strides with babies Lucy and Sam. The class was super hard. The instructor was kinda mean (or maybe just intense?) and was like, c'mon, eight more reps, feel the burn! Well, I was feeling the burn on the like second rep, so lady, get off my back already. I hope I can walk tomorrow. Then we went to lunch in Alexandria. A fun day all around. Good night all!

Our Beach Slideshow (with captions by Lucy)

Above is the streaming slideshow (aren't we getting fancy!), but if you want to view the pictures in a larger format or at a slower pace to read the captions, you can also try this link - just click on Lucy's face below. Enjoy!

Sandestin vacation 5.08

Lucy's a pool girl, not a beach girl

Hello hello! Well, Lucy and I made it home yesterday. Thankfully, our flights were completely uneventful. Woo hoo! Let's not even bother discussing the exorbitant price of my ticket....

So now I have some time to report on Lucy's first trip to the beach and the visit with the Fox fam in the 'Cola. We went to Sandestin with the Savarese fam (my sister Liz, her husband Greg and their three little ones). Lucy thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with Anna, Porter and Julia. Anna and Porter are big kids now and they were extra gentle with Lucy. Lucy and Julia got along great too. Lucy grabbed Julia's ears and belly and Julia was totally unphased. I guess that's what happens when you have two older siblings. On day 2 we attempted to go the beach. Going to the beach with a baby requires lots and lots of gear. Daddy Seth dragged it all out to the beach where we sat for precisely 10 minutes before heading back to the condo. On day 3 we tried to go the beach again. This time we actually stayed for an hour or so. But I really don't think Lucy likes the beach.

In fact, I think that if Lucy could talk, this is what she'd say abotu the beach: "mommy and daddy, why on earth did you bring me to the beach? I can't even sit up yet and you think I want to lounge on the beach? I'm itchy from the sand that creeped onto the blanket and hot from this blazing sun. I can't wear sunscreen yet so, mommy, you make me sit here in this giant white hat under a sunscreen-proof blanket and umbrella and I don't like it. I look silly (but I can understand why you're paranoid since I have daddy's super, super fair skin). And did I mention how bright it is out here? The water looks cool and refreshing, but with those giant waves, there's no way I can go in and cool off. Should I repeat what I said earlier? I. Cannot. Sit. Up. Therefore, I cannot go in the ocean. And finally, daddy, you embarrass me with the amount of crap you bring with you. Seriously, is all that necessary? Because you were not getting my subtle hints, I decided to let you know how much I dislike the beach by crying every time you tried to take of a picture of me, daddy (which is like every 5 seconds)."

So, after our 2 beach trips, we gave up and headed for the pool. And Lucy LOVES the pool! That wasn't much of a surprise since she loves taking baths. I was crazy-paranoid about keeping Lucy out of the sun, so we only went in the pool when it was dusk and even then, we only stayed in the shaded parts. Other than that, we hung out a lot and ate way, way too much. Just call it Heiferfest '08. But wait, there have already been so many heiferfests of '08 that I guess I will call this one beach trip #1 heiferfest.

After our beach trip we headed back to Pensacola to hang out with more family. Lucy FINALLY got to meet aunt Maryellen & uncle Joe, aunt Sarah and cousin Gracie. She also got to hang out with uncle Steve, uncle Michael, and grandma & grandpa. She was all smiles and wowed them with her smiles, coos and rolling over skills. Then we flew home yesterday and I think Lucy misses all the action b.c she was pretty cranky today. I guess life at home is not quite as exciting as it is with all the relatives!

Taking forgetfulness to a whole new level

Well, I might never live this down: I forgot--yes, forgot--to get myself a return plane ticket from Florida. The plan was always for Seth to drive back to New Orleans to return the rental car and then fly out of N.O., while I would stay one day longer and fly out of Pensacola with Lucy. I thought I bought my return ticket about a month ago--I even knew the flight time of the flight I "purchased." But it seems I never purchased a ticket. I think there must've been some error when I "purchased" my ticket online. So now I am searching for flights home and I think my mistake will cost us about $200. Ugh. To make matters worse, Seth is bringing it up about every five seconds. Seriously. I think he's not angry about the cost difference due to his sheer astonishment that I could've forgotten something so important.

In other news, Seth woke up again last night frantically searching through the bed linens for Lucy, saying over and over "where is she?!?! I can't find her!!!" HA. He doesn't remember doing that. He's done it before but it's been a while. While before I thought it was just funny, now I wonder, in light of my recent forgetfulness, that maybe I should be slightly concerned when he does this. But I don't think so. I will just chalk my ticket purchase forgetfulness up to some kind of computer glitch.

I will post all kinds of info about the beach later this weekend, but I just wanted to pass along this tidbit now. Good night all!

More from the Rouge (with pictures)

We had a good day visiting yesterday in the Rouge. Anyway, off to Sandestin, Florida today for a relaxing week at the beach! We are hoping for some good weather! This will be little Lucy's 1st trip to the beach. Here are a few pictures from yesterday morning at brunch (and one from the graduation Saturday night).

Here we are with the proud graduate, Jeffrey, who is off to the beach next week then off to Africa for a 4 week mission trip in June.

Paw-Paw Kevin gets Lucy time during brunch.

Greetings from the Red Stick!

Hello all! Greetings from Baton Rouge! We're in the Rouge this weekend and then heading to the beach in Sandestin, FL on Monday. Woo hoo! Jeffrey graduated last night--congrats, Jeff!

This is our second trip with Lucy and I am happy to report that once again she did great on our flight. But let me start at the beginning--with the packing for this trip. Okay, pre-baby, Seth and I prided ourselves on only bringing carry on bags, no matter how long or far the trip. We would check in online and swiftly glide through security. We had a super-efficient system for packing only clothes that go with multiple outfits, arriving at the airport precisely 32 minutes before departure, taking out our liquids, taking off shoes, etc. etc. You get the picture. Well that strategy has gone out the window with Lucy! We now pack everything but the kitchen sink. Shoes I might want to wear with one outfit? Sure, why not pack them! A 200 pack of diapers--why not? 20 outfits for baby Lucy? We might need them all.... So once we finished packing at about 11 pm, we went to bed for what can only be called a nap--and not a full night of sleep--since we were up at 3:30 am to head to Baltimore for our 6:30 am flight. Argh. Every time we fly out of that airport, I say never again. Seth is a thrifty man, and he just can't bring himself to pay more for our flights. Now me, I will pay $100, $200 more for a reasonably-timed flight out of the closest airport. Okay, I digress....

So we get to the airport and now it is time for me to sing an ode to curbside check-in. Pre-baby, I wondered--who uses this nonsense? Now I know! Families with a 3-month baby, 8 bags, and a stroller use curbside check-in and it is AWESOME! It allows us to dump our giant 50 pound bags at the curb and move slightly more quickly through security. After dumping our giant bags at the curb, then all we have to bring through security is the carseat, stroller, diaper bag, breast pump (VERY precious and pricey cargo, you nursing mothers know what I'm talking about), our carry-on bags, and oh yeah, little Lucy. After two trips through security, I have discovered that TSA agents have hearts! They are so nice to you when you have a baby.

Likewise, I have also learned that there is one time that people really do not like you or think that your baby is cute--and that is when you are boarding their airplane. Seth was definitely one of those people pre-Lucy (maybe I should use the abbreviation p.l. from now on or is that really lame?). Now he holds his breath and hopes that she sleeps the whole flight. Lucy didn't sleep the whole time but she still did great and didn't cry at all. The flight attendant was super nice and asked how old HE WAS. Um, she was wearing a purple polka dotted outfit. Seth said, SHE is three months old. Should I permanently affix a bow to her head so that people know she's a girl? Her outfit was far from unisex.

So we arrived in New Orleans and met Jeff, Brandy and Courtney for a delish lunch at Mona's lebanese restaurant. Lucy thought the hummus looke so good that she was trying to swipe it off my plate but momma ate it so fast she couldn't get to it in time! It was great to see our wonderful friends and catch up with them.

And then we headed to B.R. and went to Jeff's graduation last night. Seth and Marc, being the crazy older brothers that they are, blew an air horn when his name was called, giving the dignified ceremony the proper Roussel respect it deserved. Congrats again, Jeff! Oh, also, I am happy to report that people were so interested in seeing Lucy that no one seemed to notice my muffin top. Lucy has been all smiles for maw maw Patty, paw paw Jose and paw paw Kevin. More later!

Naps and Jumbo Muffin Top

Obviously last night's Hornets post was by Seth. Chrissy here again. So, I had two goals in going to the mall today: (1) get Lucy to take a nap and (2) find an appropriately loose top that I could wear to Jeffrey's graduation that would hide my jumbo muffin top but also look a little dressy. I partially succeeded in the former and failed in the latter. Lucy went on a nap strike this morning. I knew she was tired but she just didn't want to sleep. Riding in the car and in the stroller seems to put her to sleep, so I thought the mall walking would result in some nap time. And besides, I think she generally likes the mall. I mean, she hasn't told me so but I know she does. ;) Anyway, after an hour of multiple returns and exchanges, she fell asleep for about 30 minutes. Then her eyes popped open again and she's been awake since then. Argh. She was wide awake while we were in line at Starbucks and this man was talking to me about what a cute baby boy I had. The guy kept referring to Lucy as a he. Which is funny because she was dressed in an orangey-pink, girly outfit. I think the color is sometimes called melon. I wanted to say, thanks, SHE needs to take a nap, etc. etc. but I just got my latte and went on my way. Okay, on to goal #2. I have to have a half decent outfit to wear to Jeffrey's graduation on Sat. night (Jeffrey is Seth's little brother and he's graduating from high school). I've decided that I will wear some pre-pregnancy black pants because I don't want to buy black pants in a bigger size b.c I am hoping to not be this bigger size for much longer. The problem is, though, that I have some serious muffin top in said pre-pregnancy black pants. I mean, I had some petit muffin top before but now I have jumbo muffin top. And I need a top to hide it. But it is impossible to find a dressy-ish loose top, I've discovered. Well, I have one dressy-ish loose top, which is what I'll end up wearing since I couldn't find anything else. So Roussel fam, don't be alarmed when you see me in the same top that I've worn for basically every event since Lucy was born. And you know what's funny is that it is melon colored. Ha. Alright more later....

Go Hornets!

New Orleans can make it to the Western Conference Finals with a win Thursday night in San Antonio. Who would have ever thought that we'd make it this far. Chris Paul and David West are playing frickin' GREAT! The games in this series have been so late (9pm Eastern), I've only been able to stay up for the 1st half and then pass out on the couch. It seems the Hornets always suck the 1st half and do great in the second half. Go figure. So maybe me going to bed, somehow helps the team out. Tomorrow night, I am on call so I don't know if I'll be able to watch any of the game. Hopefully this is fate and they will win. Go Hornets!

Slideshow of pictures from April 2008

Lucy April 08

Happy 3 months baby Lucy!

Lucy's 3 month birthday is tomorrow and mommy is taking her to get some more professional pictures taken. Lord knows we've taken enough candids ourselves. Poor Lucy will probably be blind by the time she's 2 with all of the flashes she has seen. We'll try to scan some and post soon. We also have her 1 month pictures, which we'll get up here sooner or later...

Is Lucy the cutest baby in D.C.?

Well, of course we think so!

Our little Lucy is in Baby Idol 2008, a contest to be named D.C.'s cutest baby!

It's a contest being put on by a D.C. radio station, Hot 99.5, and voting began today.
To make a long story short, yes, ANYONE can vote (1 vote per email address) but the station does require you to create a free log in account (annoying but it only takes 2 minutes).

If you'd like to vote for her, the website you go to is:

http://www.hot995.com/pages/babyidol2008.html

There are 1900+ babies in the contest, organized alphabetically by 1st name, so Lucy is in the "Li- Ly" group. You just click on the tab "Li-Ly". She is listed as "Lucy-Arlington" for our home city. (Actually, there are 2 of the same picture of her, but the station is supposed to consolidate it to one picture, but if they don't, please click on the 1st one-closest to the top of the page. It may fixed by the time you see it). The picture they have posted of her, so you can recognize it, is the same as at the top of this blog. The 1st round of voting ends this Friday 5/16. So, if you have a few extra minutes, please vote for little Lucy.

What's so funny?

Little Lucy found it funny that she had such a big poop it required an outfit change.
